Merry Christmas Everyone!

I'd unload my latest set of photos and anecdotes, but hell, it's Christmas! I'll tell you later :-)

Hope you are all having a suitably merry day, and that you've all been good little boys and girls and got everything on your Christmas list. ;-)

I [Heart] Edinburgh

Wibble-wibble I'm-a-big-fanboi et cetera and ariston. I've only been here a couple of hours and already London seems flat and featureless (if only geographically speaking). Though it's the depth of winter and there are /still/ fat American tourists traipsing around! What gives?

Despite the mild frustration of buggering off to the other side of the country at this /precise/ moment, it's definitely good to be back and see the place, and it's blatantly something I had to do. There's something about knowing you can walk in any direction for an hour or two and still know exactly where you are that's a strange mix of comforting and claustrophobic =) Besides, it's only for a week.

The pets are cute, shedding all over the place and preternaturally nonchalant as always. I'm always quite surprised that they recognise me at all, but they always have so I guess I should give them more credit. My brother now has long hair and looks every inch the arty student he is, which is very, very freaky and strange.

Thoughts are up to 420, apropos of nothing. I should go back through and weed out the ones I no longer believe sometime, I'm sure there must be some :-)

House Parties (click me)

Housepartygoodness

19 Dec 2004

House parties are clearly the way forward! Yesterday was another excellent one, this time at Laurie's, and with the excuse being billed as "Christmas". A load of people seemed to leave surprisingly early for a Saturday night, but it was very interesting to finally meet these mysterious "Out-er" people that Laurie has repeatedly told me I'd hate =)

I'm really behind on photos, that makes two parties-worth that I haven't even began to put up yet, I'll have to try and remedy this and put a couple up tomorrow.

Random link: Satan's Christmas list.

Bleagh

17 Dec 2004

I feel like crap. Really, really crap. However, as I can still crack a half-decent joke I have to come to the conclusion it's purely down to this cold that I've caught.

*icky mucus noises*

Damnit.

I'm gonna wrap up warm, drink herbal tea, watch Mysterious Cities of Gold, and hope to feel better tomorrow.

Snow White

16 Dec 2004

Me gnawing on Swizzels Double Lollys is like a dog with a chew toy. I should blatently try and prolong my enjoyment from it but I'm all like MuSt… DeStRoY… _*NOW!*_.

*Gnaw* *Gnash*

Hah! You are defeated!

I heard Snow White on the Radio last night! How freaky is that? Madness! They have a single coming out too, for any bugger that's indie or stone-age enough to
still have a turn-table to play the bastard on :-/ Might get it anyway :-) Click the link for Rough Trade's take on them. Also I bumped into Waz outside Shepherds Bush tube station at stupid o'clock this morning :-)

Check out their set list for a recent gig:

  • Trust Fund Punks

  • Bored, Somewhat Detatched

  • Barbarico

  • I Read Kissenger

  • Preoccupation with Cruelty

  • I Really Really Fucking Hate Led Zeppelin

  • The Death of Linda Lee

  • I is for I Think You're a Fucking Cunt

This is some funny shit I think you'll agree :-) Planning to go see them when they
hit the Barfly, Friday 14th of Jan. Come with!

Sleeeeeep.

15 Dec 2004

This data-entry stuff is damn soporific. Not so much boring as simply putting me to sleep. Although boring too I guess.

Quickly summing up the blogs I missed, as much as I can be arsed to:

  • Popstarz was one of the best, better music for longer, less crowded than usual, more dancers and less piss artists.

  • I seem to have a vault in my head where I keep most of my one-liners and dance moves that only unlocks when I'm feeling good about myself.

  • London isn't all that - on the /big/ scale of things.

  • Pride is passé, if only for me.

  • It's funny how people turn out.

  • I'd like to be fitter, but wouldn't go to a gym to change how I looked.

  • A housemate was mugged at the end of our road; I should insure my camera.

  • Methinks my star is rising.

I've set it so the comments work again; I'll be going through all my old posts deleting spam and shutting down the comments over the next couple of weeks, but I'll keep the most recent open. It'll take a while, this is the 500th blog entry! Woo hoo!

Ironing (2/5)

13 Dec 2004

It makes things flat! Who knew! After the getting ready for my first day temping on Thursday night in a classy ironing-in-my-boxers stylee the ironing board hasn't left my room since my discovery that things look better flat. That's over stating it a bit to be honest though, as I've never seen anyone else in the house use the iron. It's probably still there for the same reason the futon thing is always there for about a week after I have someone to stay :-)

First day temping was great, basically data entry with a very civilised 10:15 start, but most of it was going the CVs of people applying to be a graphic designer at the national theatre, which was interesting.

At lunch I was on the phone to the tempy people sorting out my current "booking" for this week when my phone ran out of credit on me. Possibly the worst time in the history of me having a phone that it could have done that. Of course I didn't have my credit swipe card with me and apparently they don't provide them anymore(?) so I had to spend my lunch break high-tailing it back to Waterloo station and the public telephones therein. All's well that ends well I guess, just wish there didn't have to be so much scurrying about ;-)

Matt and I

Darren’s 24th

Had a typing test this morning. Screwed is up the first time; crappy speed and a fuck-up => 13 wpm. Argh! Thankfully they allowed me to go get a coffee after the interview - which was very vanilla - and try again. I got 43 wpm - much more like what I actually average. I should have taken a Red Bull for full speed. Or maybe gotten more sleep this weekend.

I should dress in a suit more often. Young professionals are hawt.

I also need to replace my insta-blister shoes, or reinforce the backs of my heels with some titanium alloy.

Darren's parry was all in all very good. There was a while there after Laur and Mary had left where I was completely phased out, watching with horror a people got completely smashed and attempted to walk. So that wasn't too much fun. But it got better.

It was great to see Sam again. Kate was on form, if completely trashed. Jon was being random as per. Lee is easily the most offensive person I know, but once I had accepted that I was going to be generally abused he was entertaining. it's much the same with talking to Jon actually, people that take either of them seriously are just asking for it.

After things had quietened down a bit I began to enjoy myself properly, especially after a bunch of us retired to Zaida's room. Zaida is the coolest person I have met in a very long time. Talking to James while he described his thesis in an intense manner was hilarious in retrospect, as he had acquired a bowler hat and a pair of seventies shades at the time.

The last few hours was spent drinking, making and discussing playlists, dancing to the said playlists, and snuggling, in approximately equal amounts, which was really nice. It would have been absolutely fantastic if the snugglee had been someone I cared about, but I'm happy to settle (for now).

I was also able to settle a very old score, which was good. I've come a long way
baby.

Back!

05 Dec 2004

It's nine in the morning and I'm just back from Darren's Birthday party. Loads to blog, but as I haven't been to sleep yet that should probably take priority,

ZZZzzzzz……

Blind monkeys on crack (5/5)

01 Dec 2004

…Could do this job. Bloody technological bureaucracy ! That's universities for you I guess. It's really quite boring. But kinda funny in a way. What is actually annoying me is the stupid bint sitting next to me that keeps rolling her eyes instead of actually paying any attention to what is said and keeps sighing every ten seconds like it's some great personal trial. I wonder if she can read this… I pity my co-temps that need two hands to press CTRL-S, I really do. Funny they all have G-mail accounts though :-)

It's very strange being back in uni land, even if it's a whole different uni it's essentially the same. Down to the posters for the cinema society "All nighter" and the same cheesy "School Daze" event, although Imperial does have 3 times the choices of sandwiches that Warwick does :-(

I know, I've missed out three blog entries, I hope to have a chance to write them soon, though by this point they'll be much abridged I'm sure…
