Wow! I have been mightily slack on the whole blogging front. There's a shock. Mostly because I've just been mentally busy lately. Work has been mad, working weekends is kinda cool, the strength of purpose and commitment and that malarky, but a month without a day off is a bit heavy. It's mostly over now in any case, the (horrendous) site goes live in a week or so. Please bear in mind when/if looking at it that that I had nothing to do with the designs. *cry*
In other news, we just got a neighbourhood-upgrade from Shepherd's Bush to St. Johns Wood! Hurrah! The house is very nice, making much better use of space that the old place and being just 2 stops north of bond street it shaves 20 minutes off my commute time! Bargin! I now even have a desk in my room (though it used to be the kitchen table). Now I just need Shelves, curtains, a bin, a mirror and possibly a chest of drawers and I'll be sorted.
Si and I recently spent a week on the southern Dalmatian coast (and islands) of Croatia. It was a lot of fun, if a bit knackering. Simon's pics with his snazzy new camera and 1 gig memory card are here, and my pitiful efforts are here. Having managed to procure a couple of guide-books we did a lot of reading up on the places we were going to see, but I neglected to read any kind of summery, so a lot of the generalities were a surprise to me. Here are a few:
1: There is a lot of coastline but very few beaches. Basically there's not much sand about: you got rocks, then you got sea. Bring a cushion.
2: 9 out of 10 restaurants are Pizzerias. The 10th will be seafood, but probably serve pizza too. It's no bad thing though; best pizza I've ever had was in a place overlooking a small harbour in Split.
3: They really like their coffee! Perhaps due to being on where the spheres of influence of Italy and Turkey met (ish). No idea really, but I do know it's strong and sweet and goooood.
4: They put capers in everything (except coffee).
5: All of the old architecture is Venetian or looks like it. Which is very nice.
6: By order of the government all ferries depart at stupid o?clock in the morning, so watch out if you?re island hopping.
